If you are wondering who is the genius behind those brilliant photographs in the September issue of Vogue, his name is Mario Testino; one of the most iconic and influential photographers of the industry who was born in Lima, Peru and moved to London, England in 1976 where he started his career as a photographer.
Mario Testino contributed to the success of many world’s leading luxury fashion and beauty brands through advertising campaigns such as Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, etc. and has portrait photographs to the world’s most respected and influential people from award-winning Hollywood actors to top models such as Gisele Bündchen, Kate Moss, Ashton Kutcher, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. to royalty, HRH The Prince of Wales, TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, HRH Prince Harry, Her Majesty Queen Rania al Abdullah of Jordan and Diana Princess of Wales, who was photographed by Mario 5 months before she passed away.
There are also exhibitions of his photography in museums and galleries around the world. The National Portrait Gallery in London hosted his exhibition, Portraits, in 2002, which broke records for their highest attended exhibit. It then travelled to Milan, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Tokyo, Mexico City and Lima, where he permanently shows his work.
This photographer is not only surrounded by celebrities and the high life, he is also involved with charities that give aid to children, cancer and HIV. He is the founder of MATE, “Asociación Mario Testino”, a non-profit cultural organisation that supports Peruvian artists.
Mario Testino is mostly recognised for his work across the globe in renowned international fashion magazines such as Vanity Fair and Vogue, his talent and professionalism approached him to work closely with the VIP of the fashion industry Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue. Together they produced the last issues of Vogue, August and September, working with Blake Lively and Cara Delevingne respectively for the covers of the magazine. Mario Testino is definitely one of Vault Couture’s favourite characters.
